How does one put the gravel into the base? And, why couldn't I use a longer span than 6-feet of light-weight nylon rope?

A span of more than 6 feet with any type of rope or chain on standard plastic posts is not recommended, as the posts are not likely to be stable enough to support the weight of the rope or chain between them. The bases can be filled with gravel by removing the base from the main post and pouring in gravel, or pouring gravel into the post by removing the top.
